CLSxEurope 2016: Community Knows No Borders
On Sunday October 16 the Community Leadership Summit Europe will take place for the first time. The 'official' community leadership summit (henceforth to be called CLS) is traditionally organised together with OSCON or to be more precise prior to OSCON, this year being the sixth time. The first five CLS's were in Portland. Because of it's combination with OSCON, CLS attracts community leaders from many of the bigger open source projects that have a presence at OSCON as well.
I love the diversity of these events.
A few years ago the idea of a regional CLS, also called CLSx was born. The San Francisco based CLS West was the first. There have been a number of CLSx's (CLSxMadrid, CLSxPortland and a few others I can't bring to the surface) until now, but the idea of doing a 'larger' CLS in Europe kept popping up.
In October we will finally see a CLSxEurope with the most gracious support of O'Reilly and open source consultants Age of Peers. O'Reilly provides the space for CLSxEurope in the London Hilton Metropole, the same venue as where OSCON is an unconference styled event just like it's big sister CLS and the regional cousins. Unconference, also called barcamp style, means most sessions will be determined and planned on the day itself.
Similar to CLS we allocated some space for a few keynote sessions. We plan for 3 or 4 keynotes of around 15 minutes. The theme we want to base this CLSxEurope on is: "Community Knows No Borders".
This time around CLSxEurope will be a one day event. That is fine as it is the first time we try this out. In looking forward to next year I would most definitely want to extend it to two days for 2017. One of the strengths of a barcamp actually lies in the second day, where people are way more comfortable to submit and lead a session. First lets rock this year!
